Sport – Age 13 – 18

Sport is a key component of the education provision at St Paul’s School.

At St Paul’s we offer a dynamic, inclusive and purposeful approach to sports for all pupils. Our extensive sporting programme is designed to complement our academic curriculum and foster athletic development; in addition to PE lessons and Games afternoons, our unique 100-minute lunch break provides plenty of time for pupils to pursue their sporting interests.

St Paul’s School is renowned for its strong sporting tradition, supported by a dedicated team of elite coaches and support staff, many of whom have impressive sporting backgrounds and are committed to prioritising the safety and welfare of our pupils. We provide an ideal environment for enthusiastic and talented young athletes. Our top performers benefit from expert coaching and Strength & Conditioning support, with experiences that rival those of professional academy teams. Our pupils compete in prestigious fixtures across various sports, with matches taking place on Saturdays and weekdays throughout the year. Many students represent the school and advance to regional, national, and international levels. This involves commitment to a regular training schedule  and many Paulines find this a rewarding aspect of their school life.

We offer a diverse range of nearly 30 sports, allowing all boys to discover their sporting niche. From core competitive sports like rugby, football, rowing, and cricket, to individual pursuits such as swimming, athletics, and racket sports, and more unconventional options like climbing and Ultimate Frisbee, there’s something for everyone.

Our first-class facilities, located on our Thames-side school campus, consist of impressive pitches (including a 3G pitch), a boathouse, a pool, and a brand-new Performance Centre. Our approach is very progressive and integrates sports-based technology through PE, sports programmes, and our Strength & Conditioning programme.

The Pauline sports programme serves to reinforce our core character traits: Respect, Kindness, Humility, Integrity, and Resilience. It is thoughtfully designed to be inclusive, catering to everyone from the interested novice to the elite performer. Every pupil is encouraged to realise their physical, mental, social and emotional potential.

While we may not turn every pupil into a sports enthusiast, we are committed to ensuring that every individual  learns new skills, feels welcomed by SPS Sport, and develops a foundation for a lifelong, healthy relationship with exercise.
